you can find the i3 Blades on craigslist or Ebay. They are good clubs but have a low mpf rating for PING. I would recommend the i5, i10 or the i15, which are all very similar in design and have better mpf ratings. good luck.

frankb, I have been asked this a number of times, but no problem as it is a very good question that I need to keep answering for golfers to more fully understand MPF. Basically, most all golfers will definitely notice the improved playability when there is a 200 and over playability factor increase. Yes, every number counts in increased playability but we are talking here of a noticeable difference to the golfer.
By the way I have hit and compared both #6 irons and the S58 is a noticeable improvement. I am not quite sure why Ping designed the i3 line as it seemed a little out of step with Karstens original philosophy. I think the kids succumed to the better player asking them for a blade style iron. The i3 however was a decent playing iron and not a bad design at all. They are certainly on track now as their irons have been mostly higher in MPF over the last few years. I think you will like the S58’s playability since that is the style of iron you like.

Hi Ralph,
Where would we all be without all this valuable information? Probably shooting higher scores. Thanks for putting in the time and hard work.
I wanted to get your take on something. I’m a 7 hdcp and I play with the i3 Blades right now. They’re really nice clubs but I’m thinking of switching over to the S58’s because I like the muscle back style (like the MP-52’s and AP2 but with a higher MPF rating) and something I have a better chance of working left and right.
According to your charts, the S58’s has a higher MPF rating over the i3’s, over 200 points. In your opinion, how much of an improvement would I gain by playing with the S58 over the i3’s? Where would I might see the advantages?
