how bad is tip weighting

Every top clubmaker uses tip and hosel weights to dial in the perfect head weights throughout a custom set. Because of tolerance, not every head is manufactured with the exact weight that the specs state. There is generally a +- 3g tolerance, which can make a very big difference.

The playing weight of the club is much more important than any possible tiny movement of the COG, which in most cases is so small that it doesn’t make a significant difference.

Putting less than 10-15 g in the tip will not hurt anything

I don’t care for light and superlite shafts anyway, as they haven’t provided any benefit for my swing. I’ve just found the weights to be a nuisance. It seems there are plenty of shaft weight and flex combos that one could find the appropriate set up without these aids, but heck what do I know? I don’t own a major golf club company.

    hello all,

Recently, i’ve been running across alot of irons and hybrids with tip weighting.

seems like nearly 50% of the clubs that i’ve disassembled have these little brass plugs stuck the end of the shaft..

I know that this is not desireable, as it would shift the center of gravity for the club towards the shaft.. but, since so many OEM clubs come this way, i wonder how bad of a practice is it really? In theory, i can understand why it would be not the correct way to build clubs, but in real life, we have something else.

I am assuming that this is being done by the OEM so they can get achieve a certain swing weight..

    what does everyone think?

    thanks
