KE4 Weights loosening

Just thought I’d drop a note to let people know the results of adding “teflon” tape to the weights. This is the white plumber’s tape that people have mentioned. You can buy it at any hardware store cheaply. I figured that I’d try this before I went the epoxy or loctite route. I played with the woods after this and haven’t had the weights loosen up, so I’m happy so far. This is an easy solution if it works. I’ll keep you informed

Cam, it’s simply “Teflon Tape” which is mostly used on the smaller NPT pipe threads. It is very cheap. It is a great sealant when liquids are in the pipes. When used on the Kinetic weight screws, it acts more as a filler between both threads which provides a tighter fit for the weight screw. The key to using it is to wrap the screw with 3 complete turns of the tape. This should make them permanent regarding coming loose in play, but easily removeable.

Can someone elaborate – what is plumbers tape? Are you talking about teflon tape that is put on the end of screw in copper piping so you can get open again latter? I am getting some KE4’s and would like to ensure these don’t come out, but have the option for changing them out if needed. Eventually would epoxy them shut.

TheRambler, please say hello to Dana for me. The last time I saw him he attended our special Masters Program at the GolfWorks. He spent a day with me in the golf studio and we had a great time. Definitly one of the very best fitters and assemblers in the U.S.

I have built a number of KE-4 clubs and add a little epoyy to the threads of the weight and also to the other piece that it screws into….have never had one come loose…If you need to take one out a little heat will loosen it right up.

bassplayer7770, this is another tidbit that I will send over to Britt Lindsey for inclusion in future assembly instruction sheets.

That would have been good information to include on the instructions that come with the respective KE4 models. I ended up buying the red, but, fortunately, I shouldn’t need to remove the weight that’s currently in my Driver.

The silicone plumbers tape sounds like a great solution too.

jorticelli, good solution and I will add this to any future responses. It’s also less messy than Locktight. I use the tape in the race shop for all the plumbing type fittings and I should have thought about this.

I used some white silicone plumbers tape on my KE4 V driver weight….it loosened after a few swings…and the tape worked like a charm. It is also very easy to remove….Much easier than Locktight.
