Thanks so much for the advice. I do hope I can make the game a bit more fun for him.

niblick (Tom), this would be the exact clubhead and shaft that I would recommend. This may sound strange, but a D-4 or D-5 swingweight will sometimes work wonders. It would be easy to try later after he tries the club the way you made it. You will most likely be best with 36” or 37 1/2” club length. I actually like 36” best and fit him to lie. Regarding lie you may need to go a couple degrees upright? It’s mostly all experimentation but I was very happy to see that you were on the right track to start with.

Mr. Maltby: I’d appreciate your advice - I’m trying to assist a 65 year old man, who is generally very athletic (he runs, bikes, etc), although an accident has made it very difficult for him to swing a golf club with any force. I’ve watched him a bit, and have seldom seen him hit any club over 75 yards, and he has great difficulty achieving any significant trajectory - usually a short hit with a little roll. He usually hits only a 7 iron or PW. Frankly, he plays only because he enjoys the company, and because his wife is quite good. As an experiment, I’m thinking of building him a 7-iron Glider S, with an L Tech (LL flex), thinking this might be the best way to help him achieve some increased carry. I’d appreciate any advice, as I’d really like to help him enjoy the game more. If this works, I’ll build additional clubs—but I’m wondering if this is the correct starting point.
