customwork, there is a difference in the COR (CT) in various thinner faced iron designs. We can measure this on any iron. It is however quite minor and effects the playability of an iron very little. It is not even close to the large headed drivers. An iron would need a different material in the face to increase CT, but it will still be very minor to drivers using special titaniums and heat treating because of its size and the concentrated mass it requires in such a small area. It does make good advertising copy however and it is a true statement as long as you do not go overboard on the benefits.

Keyser, you may be correct that a very high CT iron (if it was possible) may be harder to control for distance. I don’t know this as a fact but it is an interesting conversation.

Very interrested in what Ralph answers to this:)

Sorry to intrude but I´d like to add a related question… I´ve seen Ralph say that the COR of the new Hybrid ST´s and Glider is higher than the older versions. I know COR would probably have very little effect on irons shots because of their slower swingspeed, but I wonder if increased COR in the irons isn´t actually a bad thing, causing more inconsistant distance from center to off center impact. Iron shots are all about consistant distance. And COR would have the most effect on higher swingspeeds, and those are usually the golfers that want the most consistancy with their irons.

Hello Ralph, and everyone else too,

I just can’t get this question out of my head lately…how close are current iron heads to the max COR limits? I never hear of this measurement for irons the way you’d hear it used for drivers.

Is this something we may expect to see improvements on in the future? Or is COR similar to MOI in regards to irons – meaning just not as important as other factors?

    Just curious, Thanks
