Jack, this is a good idea, but the problem is the different butt section parallel lengths and if they start tapering or not or if they are even correct. Butt trimming can also affect this. Of course there are many shafts that this would work out fine with so I will check out your idea further. What about publishing the sizes at 2” down (left hand standard measurement point) and 5 inches down (right hand standard measurement point) with the warning that the sizes were obtained at the stated shaft butt diameter that matched the grip mandrel size? Then, you could check the butt diameter and make sure it stayed the same diameter at least 7 1/2” down from the top. This would actually be the bottom of the right hand grip area.

Anyway, good thought and i will try this on our head school insructor at the GolfWorks that will be the one to get it done if it works. I’ll send him a copy of this today via email and see what his opinions are. No guarantees, but if it would possibly help clubmakers it would be worthwhile.

    Ralph,

Its a very helpful service you perform rating shafts with your easy to understand shaft rating system and iron clubheads with the MPF system. I feel it would be helpful if there existed a numeric system for grip profiling. Perhaps 3 measurements of grip diameter in millimeters at key points when installed on .580, and .600 shafts. This would enable your clubmaking customer to know what he’s getting beforehand. Thank you.
