chrisfx811, sorry, just found your question.

    Pretty good answer from sonoma9600.

The Dynalite Gold wood shafts will definitely launch the ball higher with their very soft tip flex. They also feel quite solid even when you slightly mis-hit it. I recommend them for a smooth swinger because there could be directional control problems with a slasher (my temporary, thought of the moment, new word for a very aggressive swinger).

Also, as you mentioned, the cost of some shafts are quite high (my take is getting more like ridiculous) and most of them certainly do not give you the performance benefits equal to the higher cost. The True Temper Dynalite is a very good and consistent shaft in the 7 to 8 dollar range. It has also been around a long time for a reason; it works.

What matters the most, is that you have a club weight and shaft flex profile that fits your swing…....and allows you to have a tight impact pattern around the center of the face.

If you’re looking for more distance and you go to a shaft that weighs 30g less, but it doesn’t match your release and timing…...then it won’t gain you consistent distance.

Also, many players have success with steel shafts, because they’re “forced” to play the club at a shorter length to keep the swing weight/MOI down. As a result of it being shorter, they hit solid more often.

Rather than start a new thread, I figured I’d put my question here.

I’m thinking about going back to steel in my 3w & 5w, for control and cost.

How are the dynalite gold wood shafts? Are they very high launch?

I used to play a DGSL s300 in my 3w, and while it was great off the tee, it hit a little too low off the deck. Not to mention, the feel was very harsh, much like the DGSL irons shafts imho.

Does the soft tip of the Dynalite Gold shaft launch the ball much higher?

Fwiw, I’d guess my driver ss is in the low to mid 100’s, I hit my MMB 8i 145-155.

tibste, most golfers will have no problem playing steel in their fairway metals, hybrids and irons. I still believe the consensus is that most golfers prefer steel shafts in these clubs because they feel that steel provides better accuracy. I actually believe that the same accuracy can be had by both materials but I have no concrete data to prove this one way or another. The huge advantage of graphite in drivers is the fact that you are generally swinging a much lighter overall weight golf club that can be swung faster and hence hit the ball farther. Also, graphite in all their clubs benefits seniors and women golfers to help get more distance or get back lost distance. I play graphite in my driver and fairway metals (64 years old) and that is all. I could actually go back to steel in my fairway metals, but the MPF graphite shaft felt really good for my swing when I tested it. So, a lot of this is personal preference and does a particular shaft work for your particular swing. Graphite shaft prices have risen quite a bit in recent years mostly due to graphite fiber shortages (demand for fibers) caused by the aircraft industries. They are building complete aircraft fuselages out of it. That’s my two cents worth and I once again reiterate that there is nothing wrong with only playing graphite in ones driver.

I am sure that the graphites that the pros are using are very good and maybe better than steel, but I do not think they are the same sold to the public, even some sold to the public cost a fortune…...

I also play graphite in only my driver, and I just added the graphite this o***eason. Last year my driver was steel too. I have a pair of Titleist 980f fairways with TT Dynamic Gold and I love them. For me, driver is the only club that I find the slightly smoother feel of graphite useful for, because it’s the only club I’m trying to get the most out of all of the time. I prefer the control of steel, but I’m also told that the top end graphites play every bit as accurately as steel. I can’t afford to use them.

The only graphite I carry is in my driver. That will probably change soon (I’m 60). I tried graphite in my fairway woods, switched often, but never was consistent with them and certainly never found a valid reason for the extra expense. I have been playing the same Callaway steel Warbirds (3 and 5) with stock uniflex shafts for approximately 10 years. I’m sure I’d get an argument here, but I believe the original Warbirds to be one of the best fairway woods ever. Certainly they were for me.
